Background/Bio:

My name is Robert Smuin. I am a 45-year-old artist incarcerated in the Utah State Correctional Facility. I was born in Idaho but have lived in Utah for most of my life. I found a passion for art early on in my life and started drawing around the age of seven. I knew from the moment that I started drawing that drawing was what I wanted to do with my life. So that is what I have spent my life doing. I'm mostly a self-taught artist learning to create through experimentation. All of my work comes from my mind. My goal is to be a successful artist and be able to contribute to society with my gifts.

Hobbies/Interests/Goals:

Drawing is my hobby. It is therapeutic, and other things I like are bicycling, journaling, and watching animals in nature. I aim to sustain myself outside of prison by doing what I do best: drawing. I don't know how that will occur, but I feel like that should be my ultimate goal, and that will be one good and positive way to give back—giving myself through art.
